University of Bristol Tissue Culture Laboratories refurbishment and development.
Biochemistry Department improvements to include temperature-controlled incubation (Multi-bac) Laboratories with a strict tolerance of +/- 1degree C, provision for extended cold room and improvements to the Laboratories.
With exacting requirements, it was important to engage with both end users and suppliers early to ensure a fit with both the technical requirements and the day to day usage of the rooms. The UoB was keen to exceed the standard Laboratory fit out benchmark. We were careful to understand the requirements by meetings, video conferencing, thorough correspondence and compilation of room data sheets.
Building records were limited and we were aware of site constraints regarding floor to ceiling height and beam depths. A detailed site survey and communication with the building estates team ensured that we were able to work around these problems and produce a workable design.
Air handling plant had to be mounted externally in an awkward position which required extra consideration and early input from the manufacturer. All parties worked together to provide a solution to mount the plant on a bespoke platform whilst avoiding any planning issues.
Project budget was a significant factor and we ensured suppliers provided budget estimates at an early stage so that costs could be controlled.
